Reviewed at time of our visit in 2008.  The resort ownership has changed since that time and prices of camp sites has risen. I am not aware of any other significant changes to the camp ground.

474 kilometres from Alice Springs if taking the bitumen road via Erldunda. 321 kilometres from Alice Springs via Hermannsburg rough dirt road on Mereenie Loop or 355 kilometres if coming via the West MacDonnells and the Mereenie Loop.  Book in at resort headquarters on the main road; staff will then direct you to the caravan park.  Grounds staff at park escorted us to our site and offered parking assistance.

A pleasant park with views to the George Gill Ranges. Good sized level sites with water, power and sullage pits close to sites. Low impact night lighting. Water pressure good and adequate hot water.  Treated bore water very good quality.

Plenty of amenities blocks, all with washing machines on the verandahs, placed throughout park.  Blocks clean and in reasonable condition although old.  Rubbish and recycling bins.

Swimming pool. Coin operated gas barbecues.  Update: Barbecues now free.

Beware of dingoes roaming through park even in daylight. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.

Pros: Location. Pleasant atmosphere. Very good quality water. Quiet and well maintained camp ground.  Pet friendly.

Dislikes: No mobile phone reception, with the nearest being at Erldunda for Next G reception only 274 kilometres or Yulara 304 kilometres for Next G, Telstra GSM and Optus reception.  No dump point. There are only two places with dump points in central NT; Alice Springs and Yulara. Update: Dump point behind the fuel outlet

Tourist information: Drive nine kilometres to Kings Canyon, where the challenging Rim Walk is one of the best walks in central Australia, with an easy canyon floor walk also available.  Rim walk is closed if weather becomes too hot.

In 2008 we paid $33 per night for two powered or $27 unpowered.  Check website from link below for the most recent prices. Updated April 2013: powered $42 and $38 unpowered per night for two; family rates available.

Date of stay: September 2008.

Main bitumen road access 83 kilometres from Stuart Highway via Batchelor and through Litchfield National Park. Turn left 4 kilometres north of the Wangi Falls turnoff when coming from Batchelor. 1.2 kilometres of well maintained dirt road into park.  Dirt road access from other directions. This park in privately run and adjoins the western boundary of Litchfield National Park. A pleasant alternative to the crowded national park campgrounds, with added benefits of flush toilets, water, showers and bins. Suitable for big rigs, which national park campgrounds are not.

Bush style campground with roomy sites, well spread out. Powered and unpowered sites (on site generator provides power). Powered sites closest to amenities well grassed. Perimeter sites virtually out in the bush and on sand - choose powered and unpowered. Plenty of taps throughout camp grounds with untreated creek water. Drinking water tap at amenities block with filtered creek water.

Old amenities block with very large shower cubicles, with additional family bathrooms and disability bathroom.  Inadequate amenities for number of sites and septic system seemed to have trouble coping (earthworks under way). Condition basic and cleanliness average, water pressure good and adequate hot water.

Pets permitted (dogs may be kept in car if just travelling through the national park, but not if stopping in the National Park). Plastic drum for provided as a dump point. Picnic tables and seats around camp ground. Safari tents for on-site accommodation. Woodland, wetland and creek walk trails. Shop with licensed bar. Lots of native birds and wallabies. Clean above ground swimming pool.

Pros: Bushland setting with plenty of room for semi-private camping under shady trees; drive through and big rig suitable.  Huge shower cubicles. Two additional large 'family' bathrooms with toilet, shower and basin plus a disability access bathroom.  Controlled pets permitted.

Cons: Only one washing machine in each of ladies and gents bathrooms and there was a long wait to use machine in the ladies with people ‘queue jumping’.  Old amenities block.  Can hear the camp generator, which is run around the clock to provide full time power.

Tourist information: Ideally situated for day trips to all of Litchfield National Park's attractions, some of which have easy access for all vehicles, and others require high clearance four wheel drive.

$20 per night for two unpowered, $25 powered and $30 if your caravan has an air conditioner.  Update April 2013 $35 powered $25 unpowered for two per night, single discount available.

Date of stay: September 2009.

Three kilometres east of Mataranka townsite along Martin Road.

Lovely location, with campers choosing informal sites amongst shady tropical trees and palms. Mostly level sites, which will accommodate large rigs and drive through.  Taps and some power poles scattered throughout main area; long power cords may be needed. Lightly grassed. Unpowered camping beside Little Roper River well away from main camp ground, where campfires are permitted but no generators. Booking needed or arrive early in the morning as camp only takes 42 rigs and on most days is usually 'full' by early afternoon. On line booking available.

Amenities block consists of unisex 'tin shed' style bathrooms with steps to accees, containing shower, toilet and basin, in good condition and kept clean. Also two additional toilets. Unsuitable for disability access. Washing machines in breezeway between bathrooms (only two which wasn't enough). Very good camp kitchen with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, electric hot plate and free gas barbecue. No dump point, but there is a public dump point in town. Water from own bore is safe to drink and palatable but has high calcium content like much of northern and central Australia.

Nice walks around wetlands and to river (can fish in river). Being a few kilometres out of town, park is very quiet.

Pros: On the edge of wetlands, camp is well spread out and restricted to 42 rigs after which gate is closed. Those not requiring power and amenities can park well away from the rest on the banks of the Little Roper River. Lots of wildlife. Pets permitted.

Cons:  With steps to the amentities it is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Tourist information: A short walk (or drive) to Bitter Springs, a large natural fast flowing hot springs stream in a semi tropical forest.  Drives to Mataranka thermal springs, Elsey Cemetery (We of the Never Never), Elsey National Park on the banks for the Roper River.

$25 per night for two powered, $21 unpowered. Update May 2017 $35 powered and $30 unpowered, discounted single rate also available, discounts for three day and weekly bookings.

Date of stay:  July 2009.
