News from Kakadu:


Jim Jim Falls expected to open 11th June, and Twin Falls estimated to open 22nd.  

 

Mardugal Billabong walk is now OPEN, and Mardugal Campground is OPEN

 

Good new that Gunlom road and campground OPENS today 18th May 2016 with 4WD recommendand a speed limit of 40 kph.  Also Jarrangbarnmi (Koolpin Gorge) – a 4WD is required for this remote by permit access only site.  Allow seven days to get a booking, because numbers are restricted. 

 

Please take note of any crocodile warning signs

 

Maguk OPENED on Sunday 8th May 2016. .

 

Manngarre rainforest walk Ubirr on is nowOPEN.

 

Yellow Waters car park and boat ramp is now OPEN. Cooinda Lodge, Yellow Water Cruises and Warrdjan Aborignial Cultural Centre are all still OPEN.

The 2.5 kilometre circular Anbangbang Billabong walk is currently CLOSED due to high water levels but the carpark area is still accessible.

 

 

New from Litchfield:

 

The Lost City four wheel drive track is now OPEN (24th May 2016).  Wet season closures remain in place with the Reynolds River Track, Blyth Homestead, Sandy Creek Falls andSurprise Creek Falls still CLOSED. 

 

Douglas Hot Springs (Tjuwaliyn)

 

The track to Butterfly Gorge is now OPEN.  Camping at the Douglas Hot Springs campground is very pleasant.  Please do not take traliers to Butterfly Gorge; the parking area is too small.

 

Road news updated:

 

Roper Highway is OPEN with caution.

 

The Tanami Road is now OPEN with caution between Yuendumu and the Western Australian border due to flood damage.

 

Luritja Road RE-OPENED between Kathleen Springs turnoff and Wilderness Lodge turnoff.

 

Finke Road OPEN WITH CAUTION between Stuart Highway intersection and Andado Station

 

Maryvale Road OPEN WITH CAUTION between Santa Teresa Road intersection and Maryvale Station

 

Kintore Road between Papunya and Kintore OPEN.

 

Finke Gorge National Park OPENED - high clearance only and caution.  A better alternative route around some difficult water crossings near Boggy Hole has been signposted.  Please follow these signs.   

 

Palm Valley Access Road OPENED - high clearance only and caution.  Following repairs to walkways, the Palm Valley walks are now OPEN.

Western Australia  May 2016

Derby to Lennard River - OPEN to all vehicles

Lennard River to ImintjiOPEN to all vehicles

Imintji to Mount Barnett - OPEN to all vehicles

Mount Barnett to Kalumburu turn off –now OPEN to all vehicles

Kalumburu turnoff to Great Northern Highway – OPEN to all vehicles

Gibb River Road to Kalumburu is OPEN for high clearance 4WD

Mitchell Plateau: Kalumburu Road/ Port Warrender Road Junction to Surveyors Pool and Mitchell Falls is OPEN for high clearance 4WD

 

Fairfield Leopold Road is now OPEN with caution and being graded.   Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek are now OPEN.  Silent Grove campsite, Bell Gorge and Lennard Gorge are also OPEN.

 

Geikie Gorge Boat Tour, closed 10th May 2016 due water levels and flood debris, has recommenced 12th May 2016. 

 

Access to Purnululu National Park is been RE-OPENED.  Exercise caution. 

 

Duncan Road is nowOPEN

 

Nanutarra-Munjina Road from Nameless Valley Road Intersection to Hamersley Road, Tom Price is now OPEN to all vehicles

  

All clear:  Marble Bar Road between Roy Hill Station and Nullagine has vehicle restrictions due to wet weather conditions. CLOSED to trucks and light vehicles.  Open with CAUTION to 4WD only.

 

All clear:  North West Coastal Highway Roebourne to Port Hedland due to possible water in floodways.

Caution has been removed for the South Coast Highway hazard between Jerdacuttup Road and Mills Road, Jerdacuttup where there was water over road in various locations.

South Australia  May 2016

Many roads in Outback South Australia  were CLOSED due to rainfall and flooding.  Cautions and restrictions remain on many of these roads. 

 

Roads remaining CLOSED are:

 

Arrabury Road
Birdsville Inside Track
Cordillo Downs Road to Arrabury turn off to SA/QLD Border

Some roads are restricted to 4WD only.

New South Wales - ALL CLEAR 22nd May for this incident
Following heavy rainfall though New South Wales from the west, many unsealed roads were CLOSED.
 
The following are now OPEN. 
 
Silver City Highway Broken Hill to Tibooburra is now OPEN. Tibooburra to Warri Gate OPEN.  Other local roads in the north west corner may still be CLOSED or restricted. 
 
Ivanhoe to Menindee Road remains CLOSED. Other unsealed roads in the Central Darling Shire are now OPEN.
 
Unsealed roads in the Coonamble and the Carrathool Shires are OPEN WITH CAUTION

With heavy rain in the south west of the state and weather alerts for the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Goldfields-Esperance regions be alert for hazardous driving conditions, water on roads, trees across roads and possible closures of inland roads.  This system has now passed.

Western New South Wales May 2016 ALL CLEAR
With rain in Western New South Wales again on 25th May, many unsealed roads were closed.
 
Main roads in North West New South Wales, including part of the Silver City Highway, are now OPEN.  Some local roads are closed or have restrictions.
 
Most unsealed roads in the Cobar and Coonamble shires are also now OPEN.   Many unsealed roads in the Central Darling (Wilcannia) shire remain CLOSED.

6th June 2016: Tasmania has road cautions due to snow falls, and cautions due to flooding in areas in the vicinity of Sheffield. There are minor flood to moderate flood warnings for many rivers across northern Tasmania including the Derwent River, with MAJOR flood warnings for the Mersey, North Esk, South Esk, Forth and Meander Rivers.  Warning for the Derwent and Macquarie Rivers have late in the day been upgraded to MAJOR flood warningsFollowing storms across Tasmania, numerous roads are CLOSED or have water on them, particularly in the northern districts.

Ivanhoe Crossing near Kununurra in the Kimberley, Western Australia has been closed for the past two years.  It is now OPEN for high clearance 4WD.

Cape Range National Park on the Ningaloo coast near Exmouth road and campgrounds have all re-opened following closures on 3rd June due to weather conditions.
 
Heavy rain is expected in the Pilbara and Mid West - Gascoyne regions which may result in flooding and road closures.

Updates Western Australia
North West Coastal Highway is now OPEN between the Minilya-Exmouth intersection and Burkett Road.  The Minilya-Exmouth Road floodingcaution has been lifted between Learmonth and Exmouth. 
 
The North West Coastal Highway has RE-OPENED between Roebourne and the Great Northern Highway intersection.
 
Nanutarra-Munjina Road is OPEN from Tom Price Road to Hammersley Road, Mount Sheila
