New South Wales and ACT continued

Jenolan Caves - The Glenroy Camping Ground fronts Cox’s River; flush toilets. State Forest camping at Millionth Acre, Opera House Rest Area and 1929 Rest Area.  Pit toilets barbecues and water. Other camp areas are Little River, Campbells River and  Black Springs with very basic amenities.

Jingellic - Reserve on the Murray River 45 kilometres south west from Tumbarumba. Jingellic reserve is next to Bridge Hotel which provides showers for a fee. Suitable for big rigs. 

Jugiong - Jugiong Common, Hume Freeway, 220 kilometres north of Albury alongside Murrumbidgee River.  Toilets, water, limited powered sites.  Free but box for welcomed donations.

Junee – see Wantabadgery, Bethunga and rest areas at Illabo and Wallacetown. 

Kendall - Camden Haven Showground $17.00 for two powered and $13.00 for two unpowered, $8.50 and $6.50 for singles.  Toilets and hot showers, four day limit.

Kirkconnell – see Sunny Corner State Forest Lithgow

Kosciuszko National Park – A number of free camp grounds are suitable for caravans see:  National Park Camping  Most camp grounds have pit toilets and fire places.  Daily park entrance fees apply and vary according to time of year: Kosciuszko Park Fees. 

KyogleShowground $15 powered site, $95 per week. $10 unpowered, $60 per week. Room for large rigs. Pets permitted. Phone caretaker 0459537601.  Sheepstation Creek campground in the Border Ranges National Park. Approximately 28 kilometres north of Kyogle via Summerland Way and Wiangaree.  Alternative route via Barkers Vale not suitable for caravans or large coaches.  Pit toilets and barbecues. Rainforest walk trails.  Suitable for caravans.  $5 per person per night and park entry of $7 per day or park pass applies. Iron Pot Creek campground 38 kilometres west of Kyogle in the Toonumbar National Park.

Lake Cargelligo – Short stays permitted at Frogs Hollow, Deadmans Point and Showgrounds.  Longer stays at Lake Cargelligo Weir95 kilometres west of Condobolin via Lachlan Valley Way, toilets and fireplaces provided (bring own wood).  Lake Brewster Weir camping area by the Lachlan River, 42 kilometres west of Lake Cargelligo town; toilets and fireplaces provided (bring own wood). 

Lake Keepit -38 kilometres east of Gunnedah and 54 kilometres west of Tamworth or thirty kilometres south of Manilla.  In addition to serviced campground with commercial rates in peak season and reduced rates off season, bush camping is available at $12 off peak and $18 peak season.

Lithgow (see also Tarana, Hartley, Newnes, Glen Davis and Sunny Corner State Forest) – Lithgow Tourist and Van Park Cooerwull Road offers unpowered sites at $16, ($20 - $30 for powered sites). Phone 02 63514350. Lake Lyell Recreation Area Magpie Hollow Road, South Bowenfels.  $15 unpowered, $20 powered, coin showers.  $10 entry pass. Phone 02 63556347. 

Lightning Ridge – see Glengarry and Grawin

Lockhart - Shire run Caravan Park $15 for two per night unpowered ($20 powered).  Self contained for one night only at Show Grounds for $5.  

Macquarie - Turon Area along the banks of the Macquarie and Turon Rivers between  Bathurst and Hill End are several level, grassy and shaded camping spots in natural surroundings. This road is four wheel drive only and not suitable for caravans. 

Macquarie Woods - just off the Mitchell Highway halfway between Bathurst and  Orange;fresh water, toilets and wood barbecue facilities. Walking trails.  Recommended free campground.  Update: Water access has been removed.

Manildra (near Orange) - Manildra showground 36 sites with power and water, new amenities block, pets permitted, $15 per night powered and $10 per night unpowered.

Maude – see Hay

Meadow Flat – see Sunny Corner State Forest Lithgow

Mendooran - Rest Area, no power, cold showers, toilets.  Behind Police Station. 

Menindee - 111 kilometres south east of Broken Hill: free camping along Lake Pamamaroo, no amenities.

Merriwa - (Upper Hunter).  Free: Battery Rock Picnic area Fifteen kilometres east of Merriwa and Gungal Rest area 25 kilometres east of Merriwa

Milton (six kilometres north west of Ulladulla) - Milton Showground casual camping is $25 per night powered so no longer low cost.  See Showgrounds for up to date details.

Mirrool – Approximately 47 kilometres south of West Wyalong on the Newell Highway; small free camping area with toilets and barbecue and picnic area across the from the Hotel – donations welcomed.

Mittagong region – see Berrima, Wingello, Bundanoon

MorissetShowgrounds $10 unpowered ($20 powered); kitchen facilities, toilets, showers and dump point.  Closed for camping current 2022.

Moruya and Surrounds - Waldron’s Swamp Rest Area seven kilometres north of Moruya, free one-night rest area, with toilets and water. North Head Campground; with cold showers, toilets, tank and bore water, pet friendly, no longer low cost at $12 per person per night off peak season and $16 per person peak season.  Congo Camping Area (in Eurobodalla National Park); camping area with outdoor cold shower, pit toilets and tank water; check latest fees

Mudgee - Cullenbone Picnic Area, twelve kilometres north east of Mudgee along the Castlereagh Highway to Gulgong.

Mullumbimby - Showgrounds $20 unpowered ($25 powered); toilets, showers, pets permitted.   

Mumbil(south of Wellington) to the east of the town - Burrendong State Park on Lake Burrendong, entrance cost $8 per vehicle, camping fees apply – low cost for unpowered sites $7 per person per night, see Camping at Burrendong   

Murrurundi - Burning Mountain Reserve Eighteen kilometres south of town has free camping

Narooma and Surrounds - Lake Brou Camping Area (in Eurobodalla National Park) north of Narooma and south east of Bodalla; free, pit toilet only, not suitable for caravans.  Bodalla State Forest Rest Area, free one-night rest area, toilets.  Mystery Bay Campground, fifteen kilometres south of Narooma, no longer low cost at $12 per person per night off peak season and $16 per person peak season.  

Narrabri - Narrabri Showground, Belar Street, Narrabri.  Powered site $18, unpowered $12 discount for CMCA members, and half price of solo travellers.  Yarrie Lake - $15 unpowered and $20 powered with full amenities.  Mount Kaputar National Park - Two campsites, Dawsons Spring and Bark Hut. Both with gas BBQs, hot showers and toilets. No caravans allowed in the park - box trailers permitted.  Narrabri Region Camping  See also Gwabegar and Pilliga

NarranderaNarrandera Showgrounds $15 per site powered and $10 unpowered.  Narrandera Town Beach on Murrumbidgee River, Five Mile Reserve Seven kilometres east of Narrandera, Narrandera State Forest (Nobles Bend), MIA state forest 1 alongside Murrumbidgee River, Berembed Weir forty kilometres east of Narrandera; south and north entrances.  Camping at these and other places within the state forests appears to be free of charge and have no amenities. 

Newnes Camping Ground (east of Capertee), Wolgan Road, Wolgan Valley (Wollemi National Park), toilets, free.  35 kilometres of dirt road access

Nimmitabel (33 km south of Cooma) - Nimmitabel Caravan Park $14.00 unpowered per night for two  ($22.00 powered).

Nowra - See Yalwal and Shoalhaven

North Coast area - See National Parks campgrounds. Not all of these are low cost and some have park entry fees.

Nundle (near Tamworth) -Chaffey Dam, 45 kilometres south-east of Tamworth and fourteen kilometres north west of Nundle $2 honesty  box to visit or camp.  $1 for hot showers. Sixteen kilometres to the north of Nundle and 44 kilometres south of Tamworth. Water, but no power.   Sheba Dams eleven kilometres east of Nundle, toilets (no showers), barbecues, undercover cooking shed and picnic tables.

Nyngan - Free camping is available at Flood Memorial Park (adjacent to Mid-State Shearing Shed Museum) where there are toilets and room for around eight rigs.  An additional area nearby is at Teamster’s Rest would accommodate around three rigs but this is principally a day area.

Oberon - Abercrombie River National Park: See Camping Abercrombie  Bummaroo Ford ten sites – pit toilet, is suitable for caravans.  The following are not recommended for caravans: The Sink six sites- toilets, The Beach 4WD four sites- toilets, Silent Creek four wheel drive six sites - toilets (good for large groups); Blue Mountains National Park: Batsh Camp five sites- toilets; The following are not recommended for caravans and may be four wheel drive access only and roads may not always be open: Mount Werong, Limeburner’s Flat, Yerranderie.  Kanangra Boyd National Park: See Kanangra Camping  Boyd River 25 sites - toilets and suitable for caravans.  Morong Creek - no facilities; Dingo Dell four wheel drive, five sites - toilets, not recommended for caravans.  State forests and other areas: Black Springs Camping Area - toilets; Flat Rock Camping Area - toilets; Millionth Acre Camping Area - toilets; Burraga Dam - toilet; camping only at Campbells River, Duckmaloi and Porters retreat Reserves.  

Orange - See Macquarie Woods which is approximately 26 kilometres south east of Orange accesed the north side of Mitchell Highway.

Oura Beach, off Oura Road, Oura via Wagga Wagga. Boat ramp, swimming, camping, fishing, toilets, shade, bins, barbecues, tables. Free

Parkes - RTA Rest Stop on the Newell Highway heading north of town.  Goobang National Park located between Parkes and Peak Hill has free camping available.  The Showground has powered and unpowered sites available costing around $15 per night.  Booking for the showground can be made by contacting Kay Bird on 02 68622580 or mobile 0431391849. Billabong Creek Rest Area ten kilometres south of Parkes. 

Paradise Valley - Grady's Creek via Kyogle 36 kilometres from Kyogle. $7.50 per person per night.  Powered and unpowered sites.  Toilets and cold showers.   Phone 02 66366140 

Pilliga- (90 kilometres west of Narrabri) - Artesian Bore Bath, Pilliga Road, Pilliga, just north of the town. $5 per night, large flat area, pay at Café in town, unisex toilets, a warm bore water shower, 21 day limit, pets permitted but not in bore bath enclosure. Pilliga Hotel - $16.50 powered site, amenities enquires@pilligapub.com.au

Premer - (66 kilometres east south east of Coonabarabran) – Lions Park, large flat area adjacent to sports ground $7 unpowered, $12 powered, honesty box.  Amenities including hot showers, dump point, potable water, pets permitted.

PuttyGrey Gum Café, Putty Road, halfway between Windsor and Singleton offer a free 48 hour stopover behind their café with toilets, showers, disability access.  $5.00 per shower due to tank water.  

Quirindi - Liverpool Plains shire has free, donation or low cost camping at Blackville (yet to come), Caroona, Currabubula, Premer, Spring Ridge, Wallarbadah, Werris Creek, Willow Tree.

Richmond – On the north west side of Sydney in the Hawkesbury region, the Richmond Club have created Wanderest, a serviced free * caravan park in a lovely location with a four day stay limit. Pets permitted.  * Costs: A $10 Club membership payment is required, and $10 per night per site if using power, with unpowered sites at no further cost.  See  Wanderest website.  See map for location.  Small campervans not permitted, and self contained speciifed due to limited numbers of toilets and showers. 

Robertson  - Carrington Falls, Budderoo National Park (west of Kiama), access via Carrington Falls road off Jamberoo Mountain Road, eight kilometres south east of Robertson. Bring your own drinking water and fire wood, toilets and fireplaces provided.  Free. Not suitable for vehicles towing, and can get crowded.

Rocky Glen – Oxley’s Crossing Rest Area, 30 kilometres east of Coonabarbran and three kilometres west of Rocky Glen.  Memorial to explorer John Oxley who crossed here in 1818.  Large rest area with tracks well into the bush for privacy.   

RylestoneDunns Swamp is a lovely National Parks campground 27 kilometres east of Rylestone.  $5 per person per night honesty box. Pit toilets, non potable water can be drawn from dam.  See our review.

Hartley Vale (south east of Lithgow) - Lockyer’s Head Track Camp Ground Hartley Vale Road, Hartley Vale.  Toilets, free

Hay – Free 72 hour camping at Sandy Point (via Brunker Street) north west side of bridge, on the Murrumbidgee River, toilets and picnic area.   Showgrounds camping $17 powered site.  A friendly and welcoming town.  Plenty of camping along the river in reserves on both sides out of town with no amenities:  Four Mile five kilometres west of Hay, Rock and Roll ten kilometres west of Hay, Hay Weir fourteen kilometres west of Hay, Nine Mile fifteen kilometres west of Hay, Pevensey twenty kilometres west of Hay, Yang Yang (Maude) 55 kilometres west of Hay, west side of bridge at Maude, Cemetery Bend via Wharf Street east side of Lachlan Street, Brandons Bend three kilometres east of Hay, Illilawa eight kilometres east of Hay, Eli Elwah ten kilometres east of Hay, Gre Gre fifteen kilometres east of Hay, Meriola twenty kilometres east of Hay, Nulabor 25 kilometres east of Hay.
Henty
– Henty showgrounds $10 powered site.

Hill End – Fees apply. Glendora Campground Lees Lane. Shelter sheds, free barbecues, flush toilets and hot showers (coin operated).  The Village Campground Close to the centre of Hill End; flush toilets, hot showers, free barbecues and several powered sites for caravans.  NSW Parks fees apply; $7 per person unpowered and $10 powered, showers $1 at both campgrounds. 

Illabo - Rest Area alongside Olympic Highway between Bethungra and Junee – toilets, picnic shelters.
Inverell (see also Ashford and  Delungra) - Inverell Showground has six serviced powered sites at $20, phone caretaker 02 67223435.  Copeton Dam Northern Foreshores,Auburn Vale Road, Inverell.  Vehicle entry $5, camping $10 unpowered and $15 powered.  Toilets and hot showers. Caretaker on site.  Copeton Waters State Park – Unpowered sites $20 (powered sites $28 - $38 depending on location and season). Toilets and hot showers.  Copeton Dam Eastern Foreshores.  No amenities, free. 
Pindari Dam is located on the Severn River 22 kilometres from Ashford and 63 kilometres from Inverell with modern amenities block including solar heated showers. Free. Kings Plains National Park, Kings Plains Road, Inverell.  Free, toilets and picnic area, but suitable for tent camping only. Frazer Creek Sapphire Fossicking Park and  7 Oaks Fossicking Park Inverell have moderate cost campgrounds with additional fees for fossicking.  Sapphire City Caravan Park, Moore Street is the best priced commercial caravan park in Inverell offering a reduced site rate for one person and a discount for CMCA members. Pets permitted.
