Kakadu Cultural Tours
Kakadu Cultural Tours are offering a Ubirr combo tour over the Easter weekend Friday the 25th, Saturday the 26th, Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th of March 2016. Tours will leave from Jabiru at 2 pm and will be returning to Jabiru at 7:30 pm. Each tour is limited to 20 passengers, for bookings please contact Kakadu Cultural tours on 1800 525 238.

Western Australia CAUTION at floodways on the Great Northern Highway eighty kilometres south of http://roadconditions.lbs.racq.com.au/static/report/highload.html. 

 

With recent rainfall through Queensland, there are flood cautions and closures on a number of roads including the Donahue Highway, roads in the Winton and Boulia area, Roads around Birdsville, many roads in the Cape area, the Mulligan Highway at the Mcleod River Bridge are CLOSED.

South Australia north west area including the Oodnadatta Track and roads from Oodnadatta to Coober Pedy, Cadney Park, Marla and Mount Dare are CLOSED.

 

New South Wales. A number of unsealed roads in the Cobar Shire are CLOSED.  Other unsealed roads in North West New South Wales may be closed or have cautions.

Cahill's Crossing is CLOSED and will remain CLOSED until further notice - see changes above 6th April 2016
 
Despite warnings, two vehicles have been retrieved from Cahill's Crossing when signed as closed and running at around 1.0 metres; and a subsequent recovery of a car and caravan.  See photos and the stories on Facebook.

Magela Creek and Ubirr are again closed due to high water levels as at 7th March 2016 and remain closed at 9th March 2016.

Magela Creek OPENED to high clearance four wheel drive 23rd February 2016 while water levels at Magela Creek and S bends are below 0.5 metres.  Uburr is open on the shorter summer access times while the crossings are passable.

 

While Magela Creek crossing is impassable, Ubirr Art Site is as above.  When open it is accessible on summer times of 2 pm to sunset. 

 

Gimbat Road is now accessilby by high clearance four wheel drive only. Please drive with care and adhere all signage.  Yumikmik is now OPEN and is accessibly by high clearance four wheel drive only. Adhere all signage and drive with care as there is flood damage to sections of the Gimbat Road.
 
Merl Campground (Ubirr) is CLOSED for the season.

 

Kambolgie Creek is now at 0.5 and IMPASSABLE. This campground is accessed from the road to Gunlom. 

 

NT Parks are currently undertaking upgrades to amenities blocks across the park, which will mean short closures in some areas.  This includes some campgrounds and day areas.

Updates from Kakadu 
Bitter Springs in Elsey National Park Mataranka has re-opened to swimming following closure due  to the sighting of a crocodile in the area. Park Rangers are assessing the situation and we will update visitors as soon as possible.

The Mataranka Thermal Pool is open for swimming.

Unfortunately weather conditions have meant that 4WD tracks are not yet open. We would like to thank visitors in advance for their patience. We will let you know as soon as conditions change.

Judbarra/ Gregory National Park Access
Dashwood Crossing on the Buchanan Highway is OPEN, with the crossing flowing a 0.2 metres.
 
Bardedjilidji sandstone walk at Ubirr is now OPEN.
 
Mary River National Park Bird Billabong Walk and Mary River Billabong at Mary River National Park is now OPEN to the public.

Northern Territory Updates

Western Australian Parks which will have an entry fee will from the 4th April are Lane Poole Reserve, Torndirrup and West Cape Howe National Parks and Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve.  A local pass can be obtained.   See the earlier announcement atDaily Entry Fee

Daily entry fee required for more Western Australian Parks

Cape Range National Park (Ningaloo Coast).  Booking on line for all Ningaloo campsites will be required during the peak season from March to November, commencing 23rd March this year.  Bookings can be made up to 180 days in advance, and your booking must be made prior to your arrival.

Yurmikmik walks and Kambolgie Campground are OPEN following closure 14th to 17th April 2016 due to a fire.  These are accessed from the road into Gunlom.   

 

Magela Creek OPEN to all vehicles while water levels at Magela Creek and S bends are at 0.2 metres.  Ubirr rock is OPEN from 8:30 to sunset for the winter tourist season.

Cahill's Crossing at Ubirr now passable on low tide at 0.5 metres for high clearance 4wd only
As at 6th April 2016 following a some weeks closure after a few incidents at the crossing, is PASSABLE depending on the tides, at 0.5 metres for HIGH CLEARANCE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE vehicles only.  See previous stories on the closure of Cahill's Crossing

There have been buffalo sightings on the highway at the southern end of the park, please drive with care.
 
Both Mardugal campgrounds are now open.  Merl 2 campground is now open. 
 
Mardugal Billabong walk is now also open.

Anbangbang Billabong walk partially open.  Please observe safety signs.

Cape York - Captain Billy's Landing closed for track maintenance
If you are planning an early trip to the Cape and sights along the way, Cape York Australia advises us that Captain Billy's Landing will be closed for six weeks from today (3rd May 2016) for track maintenance.

Camping at the Racecourse at Port Hedland is now open for the tourist season. 
 
Port Hedland - Racecourse, three night limit, no amenities, dump/sullage point on site,$10 per night. Pay at Visitor Centre, Civic Centre or see Ranger on site.  Entry via McGregor Street, directly opposite the council civic centre. Pets permitted.  Only open during winter months 1st May until 31st August.
