These pages will feature some of the wildflowers we have photographed in Western Australia, and where possible, identified.  If you are able to help identify further flowers, or correct any I may have wrong, please contact us.
 
Information given for each species will give botanical name, known common names, describe the flower, give time of year it flowered, and where it was photographed, and the areas it occurs in.  Names have been matched to Florabase which has also been used to show distribution.

Eremophila forrestii, Wilcox Bush.  There are five subspecies.

A soft pink tubular flower, which open at the bottom, with darker pink/purple spots inside.  Slightly furry on the outside of the petals.  Foliage is round to oval and furry, giving it a pale green or silvery appearance, on a many branched shrub.  

August

Photographed south of Leinster in the Leonora shire, west of Sandstone in the Sandstone shire, and Yalgoo shire.  Can be found in the Pilbara, Gascoyne, Mid West, northern Goldfields, and limited areas of the northern Wheatbelt regions.   

Eremophila. Eremophila across many different species can have common names such as Poverty Bush, Emu Bush, Turkey Bush, Native Fuchsia. They can be medium or large shrubs with attractive tubular flowers in a range of colours including shades of purple, pink, blue and red, and occasionally in white and yellow. Some species have rounded tubular flower that may or may not be open at the bottom by the lowest petal curling back, or wider and flatter tubular flowers.  Found through the state, with the exception of the south west corner and northern Kimberley, but predominantly in the dryer and inland areas.

Eremophila glabra, Native Fuchsia, Tar Bush, Common Emu Bush.  There are 21 subspecies.

A bright red slender tubular flower which opens at the bottom, with the bush having elongated and, in some subspecies, slightly serrated leaves. Some subspecies have orange, yellow, or green flowers.  

Spring

Sandstone shire in the Mid West, and Caiguna in Dundas shire in the coastal Goldfields. Found through the Mid West, Goldfields, desert regions and southern parts of the Pilbara.

Eremophila alternifolia (This broad-leafed variant previously known as Eremophila alternifolia var. latifolia), Poverty Bush, Narrow-leaved Emu Bush, Narrow-leaved Poverty Bush, Narrow-leaved Fuchsia Bush. 

 

A pink tubular flower with darker spots interior and exterior of the blooms, growing on a large shrub which has elongated leaves. Flower stem curves downwards then up a little with the flower.

September

Newman Rocks, near Balladonia, Dundas Shire, in the southern Goldfields. Eremophila alternifolia occurs in the inland areas in the southern half of the state, mainly inland Mid West and the Goldfields regions including the desert zones, particularly near the coast from Esperance to the South Australian border. 

Eremophila clarkei, Turpentine Bush

A wide pink tubular flower, on a shrub with narrow pointed serrated leaves. Also have white, blue or purple flowers.

Photographed near Noorgung Hill west of Yalgoo and at Wilroy nature reserve south of Mullewa and in the Greater Geraldton council area, Mid West region, Western Australia.  Found in the Gascoyne, Mid West, Goldfields and Northern Wheatbelt regions.

Eremophila decipiens, Slender Fuchsia Bush, Narrow-leaved Fuchsia Bush

Smooth slender red tubular flowers opening at the bottom, long S-shaped flower stem that curves downwards then up a little with the flower, as seen in photos here.

Photographed at Woolgangie in the Shire of Coolgardie and in the Shire of Menzies.  Occurs through the Mid West, Goldfields, Wheatbelt and Great Southern Regions, and has also been recorded in the Pilbara.

Eremophila georgei, Silky Eremophila

A wide tubular flower which can be mauve, pink or blue. Calyx is wide and coloured mottled maroon.  Leaves are wide and serrated on the edges, on an upright shrub.

Photographed west of Sandstone, and occurs on the Gascoyne, Mid West, northern Goldfields and northern Wheatbelt regions.

Eremophila granitica, Granite Poverty Bush, Thin-leaved Poverty Bush, Winter Emu Bush

A wide mauve tubular flower on a long stem that curves downwards then up a little with the flower, which has a large maroon calyx.  A straggly shrub with long very slender flat leaves.
