Club
4x4 has insurance and a roadside assist add-on more suited to off the beaten track routes, and options for higher limits.
Some
comprehensive insures such as Suncorp Insurance also offer a Roadside Assist add-on to comprehensive insurance.
AAMI also
have a roadside assistance product available as an add on to their comprehensive car insurance. Towing cover when the
breakdown cannot be resolved roadside is limited to towing your car to the closest repairer at no extra charge, up to 20
kilometres in the metro area and up to 100 kilometres for regional areas. This includes any caravan or trailer up to 2.75
tonnes.
Ken Tame Insurance, available to members of CMCA (Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia) includes an option to take
out a roadside assist add-on, with a good range of benefits. This has been discontinued.
Check with your insurer,
then if they have roadside assist cover, compare value and cover to the motoring organisations. If your vehicle is used partly for
business, different premiums or eligibility may apply with some of the insurance companies.
Some makes of vehicles have roadside
assist for a limited time if purchased new. As an example, Ford have cover with the limits as shown here.
Membership of the motoring organisation in the state where your principal home is will give you coverage Australia wide through reciprocal
arrangements. They may also cover you if you have membership of an overseas motoring organisation. Phone 131111 Australia
wide for breakdown assistance. If you are using a phone on an international network, you need to use the international
+61 when dialling roadside assist.
If you have a higher level of cover specific to your state, to access this you
may be required to telephone a separate number to access roadside assistance and these are shown hereunder.
For those
with hearing impairment, most states have an SMS option, and can be used for members of that state as listed. See options state
by state for those with hearing impairment hereunder. Check with your state as to whether you should SMS the state of your membership
or the state where you are requiring the assistance as advice varies.
In most cases, you are required to reside in the state
of the organisation, and benefits may be calculated according to distance from "home" eg if accommodation is required if too far from
home. While most state organisations will accept a postal address or an address of a relative being used whist travelling, RAA
specify a physical address.

RAC of WA specifies the size and weight limit for towing will be limited to within the capabilities of the equipment the agent has
when outside of the 'guaranteed service areas". They define a caravan as being "Caravan means a covered carriage or house on
wheels and which does not exceed 4 tonne gross weight (may be limited to 2.5 tonne outside of the Metropolitan area), 5.5 metres
in length and 2.5 metres width and 3.3 metres in height, and which is used for private or recreational purposes". See more onEntitlements Brochure.
