Nearing Callanna pastoral station, taller barren hills and mesas, coloured in reddish shades with yellow patches eroded in them
came into view.
In the distance, the railway tank at the former Alberrie Creek Siding had been cleverly turned into a dog; the head is a Chrysler
car with the lower jaw being an open door on the car. This time the dog’s head was sagging having become partially unattached. As
a comparison, the photo as right was taken in 2006, showing the dog as it should be. These photos are zooming
into the tank in the distance, but they give the outline.
A windmill has been turned into a sunflower.
The ‘Ghan’ Hover-bus (above) has been placed on a railway culvert across a
small creekline.
There was a railway station residence building complete with roof near Wangianna Creek, whereas at the former Callanna siding site, only a tank remains.
Two kilometres west of Marree, we crossed the Dog Fence yet again.
A large stature of an Alien is holding a baby alien (at right).
This junk art piece (below) is one of many small abstract
sculptures here at Mutonia
The much-photographed pair of planes had been moved into this novelty area, and this has been captioned Plane Henge. The object
in front of the right side plane appears to represent and old bomb, and is captioned “Rust in Peace” with the peace symbol on it.
This pyramid is not captioned. The ‘tree’ in the background is called the Time Tree.
A ‘dust devil’ (small whirlwind)
can be seen in drawing dust into the sky.
Before heading to Muloorina Station and driving to Level Post Bay on Lake Eyre North, we drove into Marree for supplies. Fresh
locally baked bread from the Roadhouse was wonderful. Marree was also an opportunity to catch up on phone messages, having been
out of Telstra range for some time. We will re-visit Marree after our stay at Muloorina.
