Caves of the Augusta Margaret River area - The Lake Cave in 2020
The Lake Cave is adjacent to Conto’s Campground, which has 116 bushland sites, some suitable to large caravans.
A limestone
track follows the coast with spur tracks to rocks, small beaches, and features such as Conto’s Springs. These are in walking
distance from the campground.
Displays at Cave Works include items from Devil’s Lair cave which is not open to the public, which is one of the earliest sites of
human occupation in Australia, a site with very early human ornaments and an unusually rich source of information for prehistoric
cultural and natural history in the south west of Western Australia. Links to reports on dating advances on the earliest known sites
of human occupancy in Australia can be seen here
Looking southwards from The Point, Conto's Beach with the calmest seas I have ever seen at Margaret River.
While there was no surf, little rollers were forming and racing towards the shore like a group of sailfish.

The Point was a short walk from the carpark, which had signs about the dangers of rock fishing.
The sea was exceptionally
calm, but waves would still occasionally wash right over these rocks.
