These pages will
feature some of the wildflowers we have photographed in Western Australia, and where possible, identified. If you
are able to help identify further flowers, or correct any I may have wrong, please contact us.
Information given for each species
will give botanical name, known common names, describe the flower, give time of year it flowered, and where it was photographed, and
the areas it occurs in. Names have been matched to Florabase which has also been used to show distribution.

Solanum lasiophyllum Flannel Bush, Bush Tomato (above)
A purple five petalled crinkly flower with prominent yellow stamens
on a low growing bush with very light grey-green furry oval leaves. Petals may overlap to form a circular flower. Short
spines on the stems and surrounding the seed pods.
Spring
Above from Ajana and below from Yalgoo, Mid West region, Western Australia and
occurs through most of the state with the exception of the south coast, and only one occurrence from the Kimberley
Siloxerus filifolius
A tiny cream white round cluster of flowers, less than a centimetre in diameter, with spiky slender succulent
leaves surround the tiny flower. One bloom per plant.
October November
Bridgetown, South West region, Western Australia and found
in sandy or swampy areas in near coastal areas from Geraldton to Esperance, around Perth and through much of the South West.
Seringia hermanniifolia (formerly Keraudrenia hermanniifolia) Crinkle-leaved Firebush
Prolific purple blooms with five petals
forming a star and yellow fused stamens. Light green leaves with irregular edges.
Spring
Mullewa, Mid West region, Western Australia
and occurs from Shark Bay to Lancelin with isolated sightings at Cape Range (near Exmouth), in the Wheatbelt, and Esperance.
Solanum petrophilum, Rock Nightshade (above)
A mauve five petalled crinkly flower with wide petals creating a continuous circle,
with prominent yellow stamens on a bush with very large irregular crinkly leaves with sharp spines down the centre. The stems
are covered with large spines, and spines surround the developing fruit
August September
Newman Rocks near Balladonia, and
found within the inland Goldfields, and it is also known to occur in the deserts near the Northern Territory and South Australian border
Sowerbaea laxiflora Purple Tassels
A cluster of tiny purple flowers in a pompom formation at the top of a single stem. Foliage
(at right) consists of a few grass-like fine long leaves
Late spring
Bridgetown, South West Region, Western Australia and occurs in
the coastal Mid West, parts of the Wheatbelt, The South West and around Albany, with a recorded sighting near Exmouth
Siloxerus humifusus, Procumbent Siloxerus
A tiny cream white round cluster of flowers, less than a centimetre in diameter, with spiky
slender succulent leaves surround the tiny flower. These form a cluster, branching from the main plant.
October November
Tonebirdge
(Boyup Brook) and Bridgetown, South West region, Western Australia and found in sandy or swampy areas in near coastal areas from Geraldton
to Esperance, around Perth and though much of the South West.
Solanum hoplopetalum, Thorny Solanum, Afghan Thistle, Prickly Potato Weed (above)
A small white five petalled crinkly flower with
prominent yellow stamens on a sprawling low to the ground plant with bright green spiny crinkled deeply serrated
elongated leaves. Spines up to 1.4 centimetres long on the bracts behind flowers and on all parts of the plant.
Spring
Dowerin, Wheatbelt
region, Western Australia and occurs through the Goldfields, Mid West, Wheatbelt, Great Southern and South west regions.
Due
to its thorny nature and tendency to spread in disturbed soils, in some environments it is considered a weed.
Sida species, possibly Sida fibulifera (Silver Sida), or Sida calyxhymenia (Tall Sida).
Pale lemon coloured flowers with five
petals, indented at the tip, and long anthers from a central projecting base. Flowers are on relatively long stems.
Leaves on this low growing shrub are also pale coloured, oval and have a sightly serrated edge.
